All About Me

hobbies

My name is Trinity Mills Staton.  I live in Rocky Mount, North Carolina and in my free time, I enjoy reading as well as writing.  Some of my favorite books include series such as Little House on the Prairie, Harry Potter, The Penderwicks, The Boxcar Children, The Hunger Games, and more. My favorite book genres are mystery, fiction, horror, and fantasy. Most of my writing is for my English class, but I will occasionally write poems and short stories in my free time.  Here, I am pictured participating in the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical Contest in January of 2024.  My speech was entitled “Be True to the Promise.”

travel

Travel and hiking are additional hobbies of mine.  I have been on many hikes with my family in the states of North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee, Florida, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, California, Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho.   My favorite hike of all time was the Angel’s Landing hike in Zion National Park, Utah.  In this picture,  I am enjoying Glacier National Park’s very popular Grinnell Glacier Hike.

talents

I also enjoy playing my piano and violin. For piano, I am currently in Faber Books 3A, and I have recently progressed to Suzuki Book 4 in violin. I am an active member of the Tar River Ensemble in Rocky Mount, NC.  Each year, I have the opportunity to play with the Tar River Ensemble in our festive Christmas concert.  During spring recitals each year, my friends and family can see what progress I’ve made in both piano and violin as well.  The development of these talents allows me to be creative with my mother, uncle, and siblings for special programs and also just for fun!

Service

I also have done service projects with the food bank, and missions work at FUGE camp at Regent University in Virginia. Some missions work my camp group and I shared was helping a nearby church with its food bank, cleaning up yards for the elderly who were unable to maintain their yards, and evangelism at a nearby Virginia Beach mall.   I attend Sunset Avenue Baptist Church and enjoy activities there such as Wednesday night church and youth retreats.

sports/athletics

Since age 10, I have competed in cross country — initially as a middle schooler and last season in high school division.  In January of 2024, I joined our local 4-H Sharpshooters club and endeavored to learn marksmanship as well as the safe and responsible use of firearms.  I competed in my very first .22 rifle competition in August 2024 and hope to add archery and shotgun to my skillset next season.

leadership

During the summer, I volunteered as an intern to help with camps at my local 4-H.  There I learned valuable skills, such as making suggestions, being helpful, offering guidance, building relationships, and practicing leadership skills such as communication and taking initiative.  I expect these qualities to be essential to my future success wherever I go.

academics

I am homeschooled in the Christian Academy of Arts and Sciences, and my favorite subjects there are English, History, and Spanish. I am considering careers as a literary publicist, lawyer, or possibly even dentistry. In 5 years, I plan on having completed all or almost completed my college work.  At that time, I hope to have already been in an internship or job.  A scholarship fund would be essential to allow me to be able to pay for my future academic pursuits.
